RETHINKING FINANCE: HOW ANYONE CAN BECOME AN IMPACT INVESTOR

With impact investing taking the world’s financial sector by storm, it’s time to interrogate how individuals can get involved in putting their money behind their values. Whether it’s extra savings or pension contributions, there are increasing options for individuals to invest in opportunities that create positive change for society and the environment. What are the opportunities to get started? Where can individuals turn for innovative solutions? And how is fintech facilitating intentional directing of our finances? Our expert panel will share their insights, experiences, and what trends they're seeing in the industry.

The dialogue will be moderated by Natasha Dinham, an Innovative Finance Project Manager at the Bertha Centre. Her work in innovative finance has focused on impact monetization and the use of grant funding to catalyse private sector investment for impact. She will be in conversation with Altesh Baijoo, the Chief Commercial Officer and shareholder at Rainfin, South Africa’s leading online lending marketplace that connects lenders directly with individual, business or corporate borrowers. Xolisa Dhlamini, a lecturer and the head of coursework in the Development Finance Centre at the Graduate School of Business joins them. Xolisa has 13 years’ of professional experience working with institutional investors and has been working in sustainable responsible investment (SRI) and impact investment research since 2015. The final panelist is Patrick Schofield a social entrepreneur and pioneer of crowdfunding in Africa. He is Co-Founder of Uprise.Africa, an equity crowdfunding platform, and founder of Thundafund and BackaBuddy Technologies.
