Yusuf Ssessanga
MPhil
Yusuf is Director of Innovation at Rlabs Tanzania, headquartered in Iringa and a consultant in Small and Medium Enterprises development and Youth Entrepreneurship and Livelihoods. With a degree in Horticulture from Sokoine University in Tanzania, Yusuf has worked with different academic institutions.
Founding Grandflora Ltd, a Landscape company based in Kampala, Uganda, is what opened him to the passion of helping the youth start and grow businesses from scratch - and motivated him to do a Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development at the University of Dar es salaam.
Yusuf, together with his colleagues, founded Iringa Living Lab in 2012, which became RLabs Tanzania. RLabs addresses different community tensions by developing innovative solutions through multi-faceted approaches. He was also involved in the founding of Team Academy, a learning-by-doing program at the University of Iringa. He does not believe in the conventional approach to education that is predominant in many African education institutions.
His vision is to see Africa where every young person’s potential is fully utilized and believes a good education is to a large extent dependent on good teachers.
