Ntombini Marrengane

Senior Manager

Ntombini was appointed Senior Manager of the Bertha Centre in September 2020, and in this role, she is responsible for providing operational leadership and enhancing effectiveness in support of the organisation’s mission. With a background in international development and public health, Ntombini completed her MA at Clark Atlanta University and undergraduate studies at Earlham College.

Before joining the Bertha Centre, Ntombini was a Project Coordinator and Researcher at the African Centre for Cities at the University of Cape Town (UCT), where her focus was strengthening linkages between applied pan African urban research networks. This included programme management of the membership based African Urban Research Initiative (AURI), which uses knowledge co-production methodologies to conduct research at 25 applied urban research centres across 17 countries. Other responsibilities within this role included supporting the assembly of baseline data on a national basis of urban systems in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Ghana, Botswana and Malawi.

Prior to joining UCT, Ntombini served as an Urban Specialist at the World Bank, where she supported urban development projects in Eswatini, South Africa and Mozambique.
